We are Edwards, an award-winning Welsh butchery brand specialising in supplying major UK supermarkets with our branded sausages, bacon and burgers. We also serve the private label, food service and export markets.
Our roots lie in North Wales, where our founder and Master Butcher Ieuan Edwards, one of three sons born on a family farm, realised that unfortunately the land wasn’t big enough for all three sons to farm it, and so, needing to diversify, he became an apprentice butcher. In 1984, after some years spent learning “The Art of Butchery”, Ieuan embarked on butchery courses in both Switzerland and Holland and was ready to open his own butchers’ shop by the age of 20, determined to make it the best in the UK. This same shop has since been crowned “Best Butchers Shop in Wales” three times and is still a core part of our wider business, operating as a showcase and the perfect test market for new products.
In 2004 we built a production unit under the same brand and since then have gone from strength to strength, gaining consistently high BRC accreditations and taking great care in finding the right suppliers of Red Tractor Chicken and Pork, and only the finest cuts of PGI Welsh Beef.
Most recently we have invested £2.6 million in the business, adding additional production lines and doubling capacity to more than 80 tons per week. The project has also provided additional chilled storage, upgraded colleague amenities, new offices, and product development facilities to house our strengthened management team as they embark on the next chapter of our story, including a refreshed look for our brand which will launch to the public in January 2022.
